Sharing the Blessed Hope

October 2009

PASTOR’S MESSAGE:

Moses had an incredible experience when God came to meet him on the mountain in the unburnable bush. God introduced Himself as “I AM WHO I AM”. God, the one who IS! The Hebrew understanding is that that statement carries a lot more than just a statement of existence, but also of eternal existence: He Is, Was, and forever will Be.

In Revelation 1:4, 8 we find a small variation to this idea; John describes Him, and Jesus also presents Himself as the one “who is and who was and who is to come”.

Is this a different God? Has He changed? if the answer is negative to both of these, which I believe it has to be, then why?

To the Jews, the idea of an ever present God was clear.  God had always been there as their ruler and protector.  The different generations also saw Him as a present God, who was there in their time, not just in the days of Abraham and Isaac. Their understanding was also that God would never change, that God would always continue to be there with them.

But when Christ presents Himself through John, He presents Himself not just as the One who is now and was before, but also as the One who is to come.  Not just a God who will be there for the future generations, but One who will come close, who will restore not just the world but the relationship with His people of all ages.  He will come, He will be close once again. He will again be the God of all people.

Praise God for He is as He was, and He will be when He comes again.

Pastor Pedro Graça

STEWARDSHIP – THE NEW ADDITION TO OUR CHURCH:

A LITTLE CHILD SHALL LEAD THEM is the scripture text that came to my mind when one of the children from our congregation, upon seeing the form to be filled out to indicate what we could contribute financially to our church extension project and when explained to her what it meant, said, "I want to give to that; I have money in the bank and I can give $50."

The final plans for our building project were approved at our September 22 Business Meeting enabling us to have the architectural plans drawn up.  Briefly, here is the plan:

The present foyer will remain the same except the sound equipment cabinet, which is now in the sanctuary, will be in the area of our mailboxes.  The new washroom will be on the left of the new addition when coming into the church.  A new stairway, replacing the old one, will go down to the basement to the right of the chimney with handrails on both sides.  The parents' room will be extended, taking in the area of the present stairway.  This overall plan will add extra space for foyer function.  Also, there will be an attractive wheelchair ramp on the left coming into the church.  If the building permits do not delay us too long, we hope to begin this Fall.

We are very grateful to our dear people who have been faithfully giving to the building fund, resulting in only about $10,000 yet to be raised.  With some larger donations, along with the smaller ones, I am confident this amount can be raised by the end of this year.  This project is not a luxury, but a definite need.

Thank you for being faithful stewards; let us praise God for how He has blessed us thus far.

Dave Crook, Stewardship Secretary and Building Committee Chairman

THANKSGIVING – OCT. 12:

“Come, ye thankful people, come—

Raise the song of harvest-home:

All is safely gathered in

Ere the winter storms begin.

God, our Maker, doth provide

For our wants to be supplied:  Come to God’s own temple, come—

Raise the song of harvest home.”

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:  To show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.  Psalm 92:1, 2.

ADRA CANADA:

By the end of 2009, the financial crisis this year will have pushed an extra 46 million people to live on less than $1 a day.

It's tough for us, but it's tougher for the people in developing countries and it will continue to be so, unless we do
something about it TODAY!

Already, an additional 100 million people have been forced into poverty - reversing a 20-year trend toward poverty reduction. ADRA's work has never been more needed than now!

The annual goal of the Tantallon Church for support of the outreach of ADRA Canada is $2,500.  So far this year we have received $1,003.50 towards our goal.

Place your gifts in offering envelopes and mark them “ADRA.”

A PROMISE FOR YOU:

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38, 39.
